NHS Eye Examinations
You are entitled to an NHS eye examination if you are:-
- Over 60
- Under 16
- Under 19 and still in full time education
- A sufferer of Glaucoma
- Over 40 and the sibling, child or parent of a sufferer of Glaucoma
- Diabetic
- Registered Bind or Partially Sighted
- In need of a Complex Prescription. This means you need high powered lenses. Prescriptions over 10.00D or bifocals with prism in only one section are included.
- In receipt of Income Support or other income based benefit.
The NHS eye examination will include a refraction to determine your spectacle prescription, a basic examination of your eye health and binocular vision. Advice and a written prescription, dated and signed. It does not include all the eyecare services that we offer you such as Contact Lenses, Vision Training, detailed Visual Fields, Optomap Retinal Examination or OCT.
You may be asked to show written proof of your entitlement. This is required by the Department of Health.
